Community Corner

Mayors' Support Scouting at Meson Sabika

Local leaders will recognize youth leadership in Scouting on April 29th at the Annual Mayors’ Breakfast to Support Scouting, hosted by the Boy Scouts of America, Thunderbird District. The program will run from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. over breakfast at Meson Sabika in Naperville.

The event will celebrate youth community involvement through Scouting while encouraging participants to continue to be conscientious, responsible and productive citizens. The Mayors of Naperville, Lisle, Woodridge and Bolingbrook will be in attendance as well as numerous Chamber of Commerce and community leaders. Dr. Shawn Carlson, a MacArthur Fellow and Eagle Scout, is the event’s featured speaker.

“The Boy Scouts of America have been the foremost character training program in the United States for 101 years,” said the event Chairman, Jim Burner.  “It is the support of the community that has allowed us a century of success, and we are honored to have MacArther Fellow, Dr. Shawn Carson as our guest speaker.”

All proceeds from the breakfast go to the Thunderbird District of the Three Fires Council, BSA in maintaining and expanding Scouting programs for boys in Naperville, Lisle, Woodridge and Bolingbrook. In past years, the event raised as much as $10,000, which was used as financial aid for at-risk youth, the district’s Champion (special needs) Program, and camp scholarships, also called camperships. Attendees will receive a token of appreciation for their contribution to the Thunderbird District’s Scouting program.

Navistar is the Mayors’ Breakfast’s main sponsor.  To learn more or ask questions about the event, contact Robert.Siebert@scouting.org. For more information on how you can become involved in Scouting in the Thunderbird District, visit www.thunderbirddistrict.org
