The Niyama Yoga for Weight Loss Program is a medium-high intensity workout combining yoga principles and nutritional components to create a whole-istic approach to slimming down. The goal is to encourage a transformational experience that easily flows into one's lifestyle, promoting lifelong results. Using the Niyamas (second limb of yoga) as our foundation, you will be guided into a depth of self awareness and contentment that you will not find with a regular weight loss program. We will not only focus on trimming, toning and stretching the physical body - but the mind and spirit as well.

Physical Component (our energy output):
Related Niyama: Tapas - Building of internal heat and austerity
Participants are encouraged to:
- Attend all sessions: 2 Classes/week (Mondays & Wednesdays)
- Attend an additional weekly yoga class on their own (discounts will be available for multi-class passes and membership at Abhyaasa)
- Incorporate another low-medium intensity workout once/week (ex. 20 minute walk, light jog, stretching, bike ride, etc.)

Nutritional Component (our bodies fuel):
Related Niyama: Saucha - Cleanliness
- Abstain from processed foods and stick to a whole food diet
- Suggestions will be based off of the principles of Ayurveda, one of the oldest self healing sciences originating in India (and sister science of yoga). We will identify our individual "constitutions" to determine best/worst foods for our individual bodies.
- We will also briefly discuss trending diets such as Vegetarian, Vegan, Pescatarian, Raw, Gluten Free and Paleo, recognizing that there is no "one size fits all" but rather "find what best fuels you".

Reflection Component (our minds fuel):
Related Niyama(s): Santosha - Contentment, Svadhyaya - Self Study, Ishvara - Surrendering or letting go
- Daily journaling is encouraged to track progress (mental, physical, and spiritual)
- Pranayama (breathing) techniques will be taught that help to energize and awaken the body while relaxing and focusing the mind. Also learning to direct breathe to muscle groups and organs increasing our intake of oxygen which leads to increased agility, endurance, and releasing of toxins.
- Meditation techniques will be taught to help encourage better functioning of mind and body, releasing from stress (reducing cortisol levels) and increasing mental agility and endurance.

Other Components included:
- A facebook group will be created for participants to support one another, share success stories and recipes
- Guided Field Trip(s) will be available for those looking for additional resources, continuing education and more. These will be posted on the facebook page and announced in class. Costs (if any) of field trips are separate from this program.
- Our 6 week series will end with a potluck picnic where everyone is encouraged share a favorite food and experience. This will be an outdoor picnic on the Riverwalk if weather permits. Otherwise it will be held in the studio. Day and time to be determined.
