Women to sample 'Foods of the Bible' at St. Thomas micro-retreat

Women can peek into their distant foremothers’ lives and enjoy some ancient treats when they learn about “Foods of the Bible: Cooking With Our Biblical Mothers” from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Lighthouse room in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville. Reservations for this interactive micro-retreat, at $10 each payable at the door, are encouraged by Wednesday, Oct. 16, because space is limited to 75 people.

Joan Gorski, director of the Biblical Institute of the Diocese of Joliet and a great cook, will share her knowledge about food that was available to people 2,000 years ago, and how these foods were gathered, preserved, cooked and served.

Gorski has made it her life’s work to introduce others to the many aspects of Scripture. She also is a professor of Biblical studies at the Biblical Institute, a professor at the Chicago Scripture School, and has been a professor at the University of St. Francis. Gorski holds a bachelor’s degree from Benedictine University, a master’s from DePaul University and a doctoral degree from the University of St. Mary of the Lake.
