Eco Gym 5K

Eco Gym announces First ever Energy Drive!First of its kind, the drive will create clean energy for Naperville while supporting charity - Blessings in a Backpack.
Naperville, IL, February 23, 2013:  There is a new force driving energy and community involvement in Naperville – that force is Eco Gym.  Eco Gym is the first and only 24-hour health club in the world powered by a combination of human and solar energy.   Eco Gym utilizes an energy grid in the floor that allows the health club to capture and re-use the energy its members create while working out on the club’s machines.   It is this unique concept that leads the team at Eco Gym to continually look for ways to think outside the box.  "We want to create a new benchmark and a new standard for the fitness industry", says General Manager Sonny Benso pertaining to putting on this Energy Drive for the community. Eco Gym of Naperville is teaming up with the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce and local non-profit Blessings in a Backpack inviting its community friends to take part in something never done before in the fitness industry.” It will not only benefit a great cause but we will be creating energy for our community. “
Blessings in a Backpack provides some of the 12 million elementary schoolchildren who are on the federal Free and reduced price meal program with backpack of food to take home for 38 weekends during the school year. Backpack foods include east-to-prepare, ready-to-eat foods like granola bars, juice boxes, mac and cheese, and oatmeal. Nearly 62,000 children in 437 schools and in 42 states and 3 countries are currently being fed by blessings in a backpack. Respected chamber member, Adam Parks with First Command Financial tells us, "I got involved with Blessings in a Backpack last summer after meeting Ramona Ustain, the National Director of the program and Brooke Wiseman the CEO.  My wife, Gina Parks who is a third grade school teacher at Long Beach Elementary in Montgomery where roughly 50% of the students enrolled are on a free or reduced lunch program.  Gina and I had been wanting to do something to help the kids at her school for years so when we heard about Blessings we immediately got involved.  Connecting the dots was a no brainer and the rest is history."
The consequences of hunger are much more than a growling stomach. Poor nutrition can result in a weaker immune system, lower IQ, short attention span, and lower academic achievement. Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance have all been attributed to the success of this program.
The event will be held at Eco Gym of Naperville on Saturday, February, 23rd from 8am – 3pm.  There are several ways that you can get involved with this great event.  First, we need teams!  There will be 28 teams of 4 walkers/runners.  Teams are asked to register in advance at www.ecogym5k.com.  Eco Gym will accommodate walk-ins if there is space.  Second, we need sponsors!   Sponsors can either make a one-time donation of at least $50 to have their logo featured on the event shirt, or they can donate at least $100 and not only get the logo on the shirt, but also have a vendor table at the event.  Space for sponsors is limited, so please contact Eco Gym no later than January 31st if interested.  And last but not least, if you are not able to participate on the 23rd, but still want to support Blessings in a Backpack, donations will also be accepted.  For more details please visit the page above or our Facebook page. All proceeds from the event will go to Blessings in a Backpack.  Prizes will also be awarded to the teams that produce the most energy.  Refreshments will also be provided by our local business affiliates.
Eco Gym is excited to offer a revolutionary type of health club to the Naperville community, By working out at Eco Gym, our members will make a positive impact not only on their bodies but also on our planet.  Eco Gym is a full-service health club and also offers child fitness classes, results-driven personal training and Hyperbaric Therapy Treatments to residents of the Naperville area and the surrounding communities.
