Snow Could Affect Friday Afternoon Commute

Meteorologists predict lake-effect snows may impact the afternoon commute, while temperatures are expected to drop.

Updated 4:06 p.m.: A winter weather advisory is in effect Friday until 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Snow accumulation of one to three inches is expected through the evening.

--Commuters could have a cold and snowy drive home Friday afternoon, with lake-effect snow predicted. Dropping temperatures could make roads slick.

While snow is predicted, the worst of the weather is expected to hit Chicago and Northwest Indiana, according to Alex Sosnowski, expert senior meteorologist with AccuWeather.com. The western suburbs will see lesser amounts, but three-to-six inches of snow are possible in the Chicago area.

Due to low visibility and blowing snow, it is possible that some flights may also be affected, AccuWeather.com said.

The National Weather Service predicts a high Friday of 29 degrees, with a low of 12 degrees Friday night. Winds are expected to pick up and gusts as high as 25 mph are possible.
