Severe Storm Rolls Through Town Causing Damage

Winds in excess of 65 mph were reported in Naperville Monday morning.

A cluster of thunderstorms moving through Naperville Monday morning appeared to have caused some damage around town.

A trained spotter with The National Weather Service reported that the storm had winds in excess of 65 mph in Naperville and that trees were blown over, according to the weather service.

A number of Naperville Patch readers reported seeing trees blown over and branches down. At least one reader reported that her mailbox was damaged in the storm and another reported a motorcycle was blown over.

The Naperville Fire Department reported that lightning caused an attic fire at a home in the 1100 block of Bards Avenue. The residents evacuated safely and the fire was extinguished. The house was damaged but remains habitable, according to the Naperville Fire Department.

ComEd reported Monday that more than 10,000 customers in the Bolingbrook area were without power.

Temperatures in the 90s are forecasted for Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Coupled with the humidity, the heat index is expected to feel like about 100 degrees.

As a reminder, the city of Naperville is conducting annual maintenance on its , beginning today. Residents should not be alarmed if the sires are going off during periods of calm weather. Testing will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and should be complete by July 15.
