Naperville's Millennium Carillon "Big Joe" bell tolled three times at 1:50 p.m. Monday to honor the lives lost in the Boston Marathon bombings last week on April 15.

President Barack Obama also observed a private moment of silence to honor the victims. Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick asked his state’s residents to observe a moment of silence as well. Bells tolled across the state following the minute-long tribute to the victims, according to the Naperville Park District.
