The Illinois Tollway will resurface three sections of I-355 between I-55 and Army Trail Road and repair 12 bridges in 2013. Resurfacing will start first and is expected to be finished in a month. The bridge work will be done by the end of the year. This is the final major repair work on I-355 until 2025.

Bridges will be repaired and upgraded this year, as well as repairs on the ramp bridges at the I-355 and Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) Interchange and the Finley Road crossroad bridge over I-355.

The majority of resurfacing and bridge repair work will be done during off-peak hours. Weekend work will be done with daytime lane closures.

Traffic will shift to the right on southbound I-355 between the Boughton Road Toll Plaza and I-55 and on the collector-distributor road at Butterfield Road. That shift will begin overnight on May 1.

“These repairs will provide drivers with a smoother roadway and keep I-355 in good condition for years to come,” said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur in the release.

“We will limit lane closures to temporary overnight and weekend hours to minimize the impact of construction on daily commuters.”

Northbound traffic between I-55 and Boughton Road, and on the collector-distributor road at Butterfield Road and in both directions between Fullerton Road and Army Trail Road will be shifted at a later date.
