Lions Fight, Bears Win 37-13

Detroit on paper had the better defense but Chicago made its point via turnovers to points! This blowout win puts them ahead of Detroit if tied for a Wildcard Playoff spot.

For the past 2 weeks, every game has been a must win game.  When this game started, Detroit had the ball first and they were successfully going to Calvin Johnson during this opening drive.  Two minutes into the game, I was already getting frustrated with all of the early accolades about the Chicago Bears defense because Johnson had 2 catches already keeping Detroit's drive alive.

The football GODS heard my frustration and Julius Peppers stripped Megatron.  The speedy, I mean, hard hitting Linebacker Brian Urlacher comes up with the fumble and now Chicago is on the move offensively.  The Lions were not happy, a personal foul against the Detroit 3 minutes in the game; BEAR DOWN.

Detroit's next offensive possession, Chicago was not allowing anything positive and was bringing some serious pressure.  This resulted in another turnover and it was by Tim Jennings punching the ball out from behind.  Chicago scored on this turnover with a 43yd. field goal by Robbie Gould.  During this drive (Bears), we have a spotting of ORANGE CLEATS worn by Earl Bennett (2nd game in a row & last game resulting in a $5,000 fine).  He was key with setting up this field goal.

The Lions are trying to recalibrate their offense by going right back to Calvin Johnson.  Without their previous starting running back Jahvid Best, Detroit is not fluid on offense.  Best was big in handing Chicago its loss earlier against the Lions.  Lance Briggs is playing strong again with tracking down the QB for another key stoppage and turnover on downs.  Devin Hester.

Devin Hester was spectacular in this game.  During his first punt return, he almost broke one for a possible TD, but was pulled out of bounds by the Lions Punter recently signed punter.  Chicago worked its way to another field goal with awesome receiving by Earl Bennett and those orange cleats.  With almost every one of my Naperville Patch blog, it usually starts off with Matt Forte and PAYDAMAN, but the Lions are heavily focused on Forte and the Bears running game.

Detroit Football!  The Bears defense is on auto-pilot, causing another 3 and out by the Detroit Lions.  Devein Hester is up again for a punt return and guess what?  The punter almost had him again but couldn't run Devin out of bounds…TD!  Peanut Tillman was running with Devin all the way to this Touchdown, one would think that he would not have that much energy while covering MEGATRON.  A little more than just 1 quarter played and Chicago is up 20-0.

Julius Peppers is having a tremendous game.  Yet, again, he's the catalyst for another 3 and out for Detroit.  Devin Hester is back on the field again for yet another punt return.  He almost broke away for another Touchdown; however, even if he had scored there was penalty to call it back.  Chicago fumbles the ball with this possession and sets up Detroit with great field position.  This turnover by the Bears results in a field goal by Detroit; NICE D Chi-Town Bears!

The Bears running game is just being targeted by Detroit.  On a 3rd and 1 play, we lost yards with a late pitch to Matt Forte; questionable play.  Defensively, DA BEARS are playing in playoff form.  Peanut Tillman is handing Calvin Johnson like no other player has done this entire season.  Tillman even pulled the 6'5", 235 pound Johnson away from a 1st down marker for a turnover on downs.  Bear Down!

Devin Hester is yet again up for a punt return….they kick the ball out of bounds.  On offense, the Bears are not really dominating Detroit.  But for some reason, the Detroit Lions are getting really aggressive against Chicago.  At the tail end of a 3rd down play in which Chicago didn't convert, Jay Cutler took a hit from two Lion defensemen.  During that hit, Ndamukong Suh pulled Cutlers helmet right off and threw it away in one motion.  It's getting ugly at Soldier Field.

Detroit's next possession ends with a field goal; 3 more points on the board.  Chicago's passing game brought forth another field goal for Chicago.  The stats so far are in Detroit's favor offensively.  However, Chicago's special teams & defensive play have contributed to Chicago's offense of not being on the field yielding lower stats.  Good thing?  I'll take it!

Major Wright needs to work on his touchdown dance celebration...A LOT!!!  His dance, if you want to call it that, is what’s probably upseting the Lions to behavior in a less than professional manner (LOL!).  He intercepted the ball to bring the Bears to a score of 27-6 after the Robbie Gould extra point.

Next UP, Charles "Peanut" Tillman didn't perform a dance but a quick prayer of thanks when he reached the endzone after an interception.  Now I was upset about the loss earlier in the season with the Lions but man…34-6.   This game was getting out of hand for Detroit but thanks to the Twitterverse, I was able to maintain my interest in this game.  BLOWOUT!

To conclude on this victory, Chicago’s Defensive Squad was sitting on the sidelines, smiling & reflecting on their play.  There are plenty of things to work on but they put on a show for the Soldier Field fans.  Offensively, we have found our No. 1 receiver, just look for the orange shoes.  Earl Bennett had an awesome game and if he keeps this up, Matt Forte’s becomes even more dangerous.  Good leadership from Jay Cutler.  He showed a lot of class by not overreacting after taking a vicious hit.  I’m not going to blog about the huge fight.

Devin Hester….you are ridiculous!
