Women Look to Concealed Carry for Empowerment

According to NRA Instructor Gigi Callaway, women are increasingly looking to Illinois' new concealed carry law in order to protect themselves. "Even though you hope and pray you will never need to use it, there is something very empowering about having the ability to protect yourself with a concealed firearm," says Callaway, who is also certified by the State Police to teach the concealed carry curriculum.

Once thought to be the sole domain of men, machismo and testosterone, the world of handguns for self defense is increasingly becoming more populated with women.  Some women don pink camouflage, buy pink holsters and even pink guns to make the "I am woman" statement as they look to themselves for their own self defense.

Instructor Callaway teaches for Illinois Gun Pros and will be co-leading a Woman's only class for concealed carry on the evening of Tuesday, March 25th. This four hour class is the introductory class for safety, marksmanship and gun handling, and counts for 1/4 of the training required for an Illinois License to Carry.
