Fast Facts: Two of the elite programs in the state, from just down the road from each other, face off in this one. Naperville North is the two-time defending Class 3A state champion. The Huskies’ 36-game unbeaten streak came to an end on March 22 to Hinsdale Central, the team they beat for the title last year. Many of North’s stars from last year’s 22-0-2 team have moved on, but Boswell is back after leading the team in scoring in 2013. Baenzinger is also back in goal. Dandridge leads the charge of talented newcomers as the Huskies attempt to become only the second team to ever win three straight state titles. A school that knows all about sustained success is Waubonsie Valley. The Warriors won three state titles in four years from 2007-10. As has been the case for the majority of Coach Julie Bergstrom’s tenure, the roster is loaded with Division I talent. The Warriors have the luxury of two Division I recruits in goal with Rigby (Iowa) and Morgan (Eastern Illinois). Dodson is headed to Auburn next year. Kemerling (Iowa) joins Rigby in committing to the Hawkeyes. Waubonsie is coming off of a convincing 3-1 win over rival Neuqua Valley last week.
