Fast Facts: The preseason favorites in the DVC will square off in an early-season showdown. Both teams are off to 2-0 starts in DVC play, each boasting a win over perennial DVC power Glenbard East. West Aurora is coming off of two straight appearances in the Class 4A Hinsdale Central Supersectional, losing to Proviso East both times. Back from those teams is Walker, one of the area’s top players. He is committed to the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. He is averaging 26 points per game in the young season, hitting 83 percent of his free throws and 53 percent of his shots from three-point range. Dunn is capable of handling the point, which allows Walker to score. Griffin had some big games down the stretch as a sophomore last year and is averaging 13.5 points per game so far this year. Koth adds another weapon, while Williams, at 6-foot-8, is learning on the job as a sophomore. Central is led by Czarnowski, a four-year varsity starter. The 6-foot-8 versatile threat is committed to Division II Hillsdale College in Michigan. Sharpshooters Anthony and Bennett support him from the outside. Maloney is off to a strong start at forward, complementing Czarnowski down low. Fans of Central’s Class 8A state championship football team will remember Czarnowski as the ringleader of the student fan section.
