Fast Facts: Due to rain, the semifinals for the star-studded tournament were moved to Friday night, with the winners of the Neuqua Valley-Naperville North and Naperville Central-Barrington games advancing to Saturday’s final. Neuqua and North are quite familiar with each other. North, the defending Class 3A state champions and runners-up in 2011, knocked the Wildcats out of the playoffs the past two seasons and beat them three times last year. Neuqua, a 4-0 quarterfinal winner over Hinsdale Central, has recovered from losing one of the nation’s top players, UCLA-bound midfielder Zoey Goralski, to a torn ACL. She was one of two high schoolers playing for the U20 national team in March. Neuqua has eight Division I recruits, including D’Addorio (Illinois), Dal Pozzo (Miami), Donlon (Bucknell) and Ksiazek (Illinois State). Swift (Kentucky) leads North’s fleet of Division I players. Climo (Bucknell), Grygleski (Northwestern), Szalach (Purdue) and Widlacki (Penn State) are also on that list. North beat Geneva 4-2 Thursday. Naperville Central, a 2-0 winner over New Trier Thursday, was the only team to beat North last year, and it was in the finals of this tournament. The Redhawks also tied Neuqua 0-0 this season. Cisneros (Bowling Green), Ellis (Indiana) and Muckenhirn (North Dakota State) lead the way for Central. Barrington, who topped Loyola 3-0 Thursday, has won four straight sectional titles and has seven returning starters from last year’s squad, but youth reigns supreme. Most of the Fillies’ stars are underclassmen.
