Birthday Parties, a 3-Legged Cat, and Other Ways You Can Support the Naperville Area Humane Society!

Check out the wide variety of ways that individuals and groups can support the Naperville Area Humane Society - some of them may surprise you!

Volunteering as an individual or with a group. Fun events.  Shopping.  Financial or wish list donations.  And, of course, bringing a new (pet) member into your family through adoption!

Don't you appreciate having such a wide variety of options available to support a local non-profit?  Here are just some of the many ways you (and/or your group) can get involved with the Naperville Area Humane Society!

-- (NEW!) Purchase a 2013 Pet Calendar at the shelter:  available starting October 20th, purchase a $15.00 2013 Pet Calendar, which features over 180 local pets and pets available for adoption through the NAHS!

-- (NEW!) Book your Walt Disney World or Disney Cruise Line vacation with travel beCAUSE:   we'll donate $25-$200 to the NAHS through our FUNDRAISING by MOUSE program for every vacation booked!  No markups. No fees. And we'll help you find the right promotion for your vacation!

-- Attend the Annual Black Cat Ball on Friday, October 19th:  If you're even thinking about this popular event, book your ticket ($150 each) NOW, because it's quite possible it'll sell out!  It takes place starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton - join them for cocktails, dinner, a silent auction, dancing, and more!

-- Shop at the 2nd Annual Holiday Bazaar on December 1st and/or attend the Open House on December 2nd:  Crafty?  The NAHS is looking for craft donations (they do not have to be holiday-themed!) for the bazaar - contact Nancy Swantek at prettygardenmom@yahoo.com if you're interested!  The Holiday Bazaar takes place on Saturday, December 1st from 11am-4pm and the Open House takes place on Sunday, December 2nd from 12-3pm.  Pets will be available for adoption all weekend!

--Host a child's birthday party at the shelter! The shelter hosts 2-hour birthday parties for kids 6 & up, which includes an educational talk, behind-the-scenes tour, & animal interaction!  They request a minimum $75 donation, and you bring your own games, decorations, and cake.

--Combine a scout (or other group) service project & take a tour of the shelter: For a $20 donation, groups of 20 or less can take an educational, behind-the-scenes tour of the animal shelter.  Better yet, why not combine the tour with a service project, such as a drive for some of the items on the NAHS wish list?

There's always something new going on at the Naperville Area Humane Society - keep up with them here:

Side note:  I've always had a soft-spot for 3-legged cats.  We've adopted 2 (3)-legged cats over the years, and just lost the last one, Mica, to cancer last month.

During my tour of the shelter, I met yet another 3-legged cat, Sunny.  I know, what are the chances, right?!

Our family is not quite ready to adopt another pet (yet), but perhaps YOURS is ready? Sunny is just 1.5 years old and can be seen at the shelter!

One benefit to adopting a 3-legged cat:  they typically can't jump very high, i.e. onto your kitchen counter with a turkey on it...You'll find yourself saying 'get down from there!' significantly less than with a 4-legged cat!
