Professional Development for Naperville teachers

Illinois’ first one-on-one brain training center, LearningRx Chicago-Naperville, has partnered with the Professional Learning Board to offer a free online course  to all Naperville area teachers.

“Eighty percent of learning struggles are the result of weak cognitive skills,” said Mia Tischer, executive director of Learning Rx Chicago-Naperville. “Brain training strengthens those skills and helps make thinking, reading and learning easier than before.”

The course will help teachers recognize the signs of weak cognitive skills, provide them with tools to address those deficits in the classroom and provide resources for teachers. The course will provide teachers with five Continuing Education (CE) credits.

Teachers and administrators are encouraged to call the LearningRx Center at 630-470-9631 for more information and to obtain the log-in information. The course is open to public and private schools in the community.

“With new teacher recertification, professional development is central to the teaching vocation,” said Tischer.  “Our goal is to give teachers meaningful skills that can help each student learn better,” she said.

Each child comes to the classroom with a different set of skill sets, said Tischer. This training will help teachers learn more about how the cognitive process works and how weak skills can hamper learning.

“As one-on-one brain trainers, we work with students on their core cognitive skills, like auditory processing, working memory and sustained attention. We understand that even when excellent teachers use the best strategies and curriculum, students may continue to have weak underlying cognitive skills.”

LearningRx has developed a methodology that can quickly build up cognitive mental tools with fun, game-like exercises that increasingly become more difficult and intense.  One-on-one trainers act as coaches to students of all ages, encouraging them to reach and stretch higher. The training can also reduce or eliminate learning troubles and can help remove the barriers created by ADHD and dyslexia.
