Pinkalicious Party with Book Author Supports Marklund

Victoria Kann, author and illustrator of the popular “Pinkalicious” children’s book series, provided a special afternoon to 11 children recently as part of a prize package that also supported the care of children with disabilities. Earlier this month, the author read her newest book to her young audience and later presented each with a signed copy as well as a new Madame Alexander Pinkalicious doll, all as part of an auction item won at Marklund’s Annual Top Hat Ball.

Marklund is a nonprofit Chicago-suburban organization that serves children and adults with profound developmental disabilities.

Held at “A Kids Kitchen” in Naperville, partygoers were then given the opportunity to get elbow deep along with the author into the creation of special Pinkalicious cupcakes, based on recipes in Kann’s not-yet-released cupcake cookbook.

“Everyone had a great time, especially when using the pastry bags,” said Michelle O’Malley owner of A Kid’s Kitchen, who sponsored a portion of this prize package as part of a fundraiser for Marklund.

Lisa and Mark Jarmoszka, who won the package at Marklund’s Top Hat Ball last February, threw the party for their daughter and friends, and were very impressed with everything.  ““The Pinkalicious Party exceeded our expectations,” said Lisa, Community Affairs Manager with BMO Harris Financial Group, a corporate sponsors at Marklund. “It was a thrill for the girls to meet Victoria Kahn and to have her read to them, and they were overwhelmed by the goodies they received. We also can’t say enough about Chef Michelle from A Kids Kitchen – she was phenomenal with the children, and they had a wonderful time learning how to decorate cupcakes. It was a priceless, unforgettable experience for all!”

Marklund’s Top Hat Ball is held annually in February as a major fundraiser for the organization. Nearly 600 people attend last year, helping Marklund raise more than $400,000.

Marklund’s 18th annual Top Hat Ball, which has an “African Adventure” theme, will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, in the Grand Ballroom at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Hotel.
