Edward spirometry testing Nov. 20 to detect breathing problems

In recognition of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Awareness Day, Edward Hospital will host Spirometry Screening on Wednesday, November 20, 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Edward Heart Hospital conference room, 801 S. Washington Street in Naperville.

 

Spirometry screening is a simple but powerful breathing test that can be used to detect decreased lung function.

The test is recommended for people who:

•           Are smokers or ex-smokers

•           Have been previously diagnosed with COPD

•           Have difficulty breathing

•           Have a frequent cough or phlegm production

•           Have persistent chest colds or pneumonia

•           Have persistent allergies

•           Have asthma but don’t get relief from their medication

 

The spirometry screening is free.  Blood oxygen levels will also be screened using a simple finger-clip test.  Participants will receive a copy of their test results and have an opportunity to discuss the results with a registered respiratory therapist.  To avoid long waits and lines, pre-register by calling (630) 527-6363.
