"Beat the Brain Drain" with a summer contest by LearningRx Chicago-Naperville

To help raise awareness of the summer slide and ways to combat it, LearningRx Chicago-Naperville is holding a “Beat the Brain Drain Contest” on social media. Participants can win gift cards to some of their favorite places (and ours too), Marbles Brain Store, Whole Foods, Target, iTunes, when they like LearningRx Chicago-Naperville on Facebook and play along with us. 

Each week, LearningRx will highlight how to keep your child’s brain sharp over the summer, provide readers with fun, brainy tips and tickle your brain with a teaser or puzzle.  Each week, winners will be announced and gift cards given away.  How to beat the summer slide tips will be presented each week in LearningRx email drip and on social media. Along with that tip, participants will be given a related puzzle or brain teaser to solve. If there are multiple winners, they will be chosen by lottery.

“This is a chance to highlight ways parents can help their children stay sharp over the summer,” said Mia Tischer, executive director of LearningRx Chicago-Naperville. She noted that summer slide or the summer brain drain is real and can affect up to two months of learning. Ways to combat the summer slide for students are to limit screen time to 1-2 hours a day AFTER completing an educational activity, plant a garden, make a weekly trip to the library, keep a summer journal and help map out and plan the vacation.
