Never Fear, The Lantern is Still Here

Word on Facebook was that The Lantern was closing, but the business is merely undergoing some changes and will reopen. Meanwhile, another downtown nightspot has closed its doors.

Patrons of , fear not, the downtown Naperville landmark has not closed for good, only for some maintenance and a change of management.

A sign in the window Tuesday stated that the business was closed for maintenance, but the word on Facebook was that the downtown mainstay had closed.

But, Katie Wood, executive director of the Downtown Naperville Alliance, said that isn’t the case. Wood spoke with the business’ owner who confirmed that some necessary updates and changes are underway.

“It is all good news, they are just closed temporarily, they are doing a little bit of maintenance work,” Wood said Tuesday afternoon. “There will be a little bit of a changeover in management and personnel. They will certainly be reopening.  Management will be local and they are just doing some necessary maintenance work.” 

The bar and grill should hopefully be reopening in time for the , she said. “No need to panic or worry there,” Wood said.

Wood said she enjoys the bar for its laid back, hometown atmosphere and for its burgers and chicken salad too. And, those should be served up again soon based on her discussion with the owner.

While The Lantern is closed for maintenance, another downtown nightspot has closed its doors for good. closed on Oct. 31. Wood said she wasn’t surprised because the bar was open only a limited number of hours.

“I had a feeling that was coming down the pike when you see a business close more hours,” Wood said. The owners were planning to put more focus on the downtown Chicago location.

Because of its location, Jilly’s already has parties interested in the space, Wood said.
