UPDATED: High End Consignment Store Closes Abruptly

Business owner claims renovations were planned and that problems with AT&T and the building's wiring caused phone and Internet service problems.

UPDATED: Sunday, 8:50 a.m.

The owner of Ritzy Rack claims that he was planning to do renovations over the holiday weekend, including painting and replacing carpet, and that the business was closed in preparation. Owner Ryan Wrobel said in an e-mail to Naperville Patch that he planned to have updates done over the weekend.

He said that all of the store's stock was moved to the back of the building.

A concerned consigner with the store contacted Naperville Patch after she attempted to pick-up payment for an item sold at the consignment store and found it closed without any notice of what was going on. She was unable to contact the store's management.

In addition to Wrobel's plans to update the store, Wrobel said the business was having problems with AT & T and said that was why the phone and website weren't working. He said there had been problems with the phone and Internet service. A search on Sunday did show the website was again working. The phone continued to say that it was temporarily disconnected and the Facebook page was not found.

"Our website is up and has been. We are having issue with AT&T with our phones and internet because of issues with the building and wiring problems," Wrobel said in an e-mail.

In his e-mail Wrobel did not say when the store was scheduled to re-open.

A quote posted on a wall at the Ritzy Rack says: “Life is a journey and only you hold the map.” From every appearance, it seems the store's journey has come to an end, leaving customers of the high-end consignment shop to wonder what is next.

Earlier in the week a consigner at the store said she went to pick up payment for a purse that was sold, only to find the store was closed.

After returning a number of times to the business and attempting to contact the owner by phone and Facebook, customer Diana Serbick said she found Wednesday that most of the merchandise had been removed from the shop located at Hassert Boulevard and Route 59.

Serbick said she had about $4,000 worth of items at the store to be sold on consignment. She said she went to the store Monday to get payment for a purse that recently sold and found the store closed. She repeatedly returned and each time the store was closed. Finally, on her trip to the store Wednesday she found that most of the contents had been removed.

The phone for the business has been temporarily disconnected, the website no longer exists and the Facebook page is also missing.

On Friday afternoon, the business, which was the only remaining shop in the mini mall where it was located, was deserted with random items still strewn about the store. The mannequins in the store were undressed and it appeared that only one rack of random clothing was left inside. A sign in the window said the business was closed and offered no other information.

A call was made to the leasing company to inquire about the store’s status late Friday afternoon, but nobody answered and a call was not yet returned.
