Electronics Retailer hhgregg Opening Sept. 15

Tech geeks, electronics lovers and anyone who needs an appliance soon will have another store in Naperville to fulfill their needs.

Hhgregg an Indianapolis-based appliance and electronics retailer will open its doors Sept. 15 at 460 S. Route 59, the retailer has announced. Hhgregg is opening 14 stores in the Chicago area and hiring about 700 employees.

With the addition of its Chicago stores, the retailer will have 204 stores in states including Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, according to hhgregg.

"Chicago is an exciting new market for hhgregg, and we are delighted to have a presence here," Jeff Pearson, hhgregg vice president of marketing, said in a release. "We look forward to serving new customers in the area who can expect to find a large selection of products, very competitive prices and outstanding customer service at our stores."

Employees are extensively trained, work on commission and assist customers using an educational and consultative approach, according to the company.

Henry Harold Gregg and his wife, Fansy, founded the company on April 15, 1955, in Indianapolis, according to the company. The first store was about 800 square feet, much smaller than the average store, which today is roughly 30,000 square feet.

Each of the Chicago-area stores will hold ribbon-cutting ceremonies at 2:45 p.m. Sept. 15, followed by the stores’ openings at 3 p.m. with a grand-opening sale, according to hhgregg. Customers also will be able to register to win a Frigidaire Stainless Steel Appliance Package, a 55" LG 3D TV or a Magellan GPS.
