Gas Prices Spike in Naperville, Chicagoland

Naperville gas stations are charging more than $4 per gallon for gas.

AAA Chicago is saying that refinery problems in Illinois and Indiana are behind gas price increases that took the cost to more than $4 a gallon in the Chicago area, according to the State Journal Register.

According to IllinoisGasPrices.com, only three stations in Naperville have gas priced below $4 per gallon. The cheapest gas you’ll find is $3.79 at Sam's Club, 808 S. Route 59. Prices are steep at other local stations, costing $4.15 per gallon at , Delta Sonic, Speedway and Mobil and $4.19 at Shell.

Nationwide, gas prices have risen from an average of 3.32 per gallon of regular to $3.53 per gallon of regular in the last month, according to AAA.

"Illinois, Indiana and states in the Midwest have seen prices rise since last week due to production issues at the BP refinery in Whiting, Ind. and the Citgo refinery in Lemont," Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago said in a news release. "With the supply from these refineries impacted, and the associated increase in wholesale prices already seen in the region, there is reason to suspect that prices in the areas supplied by these facilities may continue to rise until the situation is resolved."

Nationwide, prices are rising due to corn prices which have caused ethanol costs to increase about 17 percent in July, according to the Huffington Post.

Gas prices rise four times faster than they fall after the wholesale price changes, according to a 2010 Federal Trade Commission (FTC) study. USA Today says that, according to the study, some retailers sell at a loss when wholesale prices are high and try to make up for it when prices go down.

AAA says prices should begin to decline again after Labor Day.

You can thank the tree hugging, eco-terrorists who have and continue to sabotaged all efforts to become energy independent by essentially outlawing natural fossil fuels and force the industry through laws to have 30 different gas mixtures, closing all coal plants they can find, mandating using food for fuel, continually increasing taxes on the same and we wonder why we are paying 4+ a gallon for gas when it should be no more than $2 if our governments stayed out of the free market process. The DOE created by Carter in the mid 70’s to make us energy independent has done the exact opposite and spends 60 billion of our money yearly .A perfect candidate for congress to bring down the financial ax instead of going after seniors and vets. They are actively doing the same with electricity by wasting millions in Naperville on smart meters and billions nationwide which do nothing to increase supply but rather give them the capability to charge time of day rates which will double or triple your rates within 2 to 5 yrs.

Seriously why isn't the President saying anything about this? When President Bush was in office everyone blamed him. President Obama hasn't been mentioned at all while gas prices continue to climb. Where is the outrage now America? He has all but forgotten his "home state".

He has! He wants you in electric cars (volts) so his union buddies get money to support him. He has so he can institute cap and trade and double and triple your electric rates. He has by having the EPA essentially shut down coal minning. HE IS THE MAJOR CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM!
