Miller Calls for Scrapping Obamacare Mandates

Uncertainty surrounding healthcare rules is killing jobs

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Republican 11th Congressional District candidate Bert Miller today called for ending the employer and individual mandates of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

"They keep changing the rules," Miller said, referring to the Obama Administration's announcement this past week that it would delay for another year the mandate that forces small business to provide health insurance to full-time workers. "The uncertainty surrounding these rules is killing jobs. Employers are reluctant to hire more workers."

Miller favors scrapping the employer mandate to give businesses more flexibility and allowing insurers to offer a wider variety of plans with more price and coverage options than Obamacare allows. He also wants Congress to consider several Republican proposals that preserve coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions, but eliminate the individual mandate.

"We've seen time and time again that Obamacare is a house of cards," Miller said. "The botched roll out of the program was just the tip of the iceberg. We need to roll up our sleeves and perform major surgery on this monstrosity. That's what I intend to do if elected to Congress."

Throughout his career, Miller has been a leader and strong proponent of economic development through common-sense, pro-business reforms. His business, Phoenix Closures, makes plastic lids and caps for bottles and jars, all with American-made products and equipment.

In addition to his business experience, Miller has served on the boards of Hales Franciscan High School, a South Side institution dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth prepare for higher education, and the Big Shoulders Fund, a group with a mission to provide support to Catholic schools in the neediest areas of inner city Chicago.
