The film’s opening was one of the largest in movie history. The Hunger Games took in roughly $155 million, according to The Washington Post. The movie’s opening weekend was the third biggest of all time, only the final Harry Potter movie and The Dark Knight brought in more revenue at $169.2 million and $158.4 million respectively.

The Hunger Games trilogy, written by Suzanne Collins, has attracted readers of all ages (this writer included) and the story’s complexity makes it more interesting than some young adult literature.

The books are in the top three spots on the Amazon.com best sellers of 2012, beating out Steve Jobs (No. 4), according to the online retailer.
