Voices of Vision Celebrates Illinois Family Reading Night

Illinois Family Reading Night, sponsored by Jesse White, Secretary of State and State Librarian, will be held on Nov. 18. The Voices of Vision Talking Book Center is providing materials for families to read at home. The Talking Book Center serves persons who are unable to read standard print items due to visual or physical disabilities.

This year's Family Reading Night theme is Fall into Reading. The Talking Book Center has developed a special reading list of talking and Braille books that are ideal for listening to by families. The reading list is located at: http://bit.ly/100Books. (long link: http://dls.typepad.com/files/100books.pdf) This list represents a small sampling of the thousands of talking and Braille books that are available through the state's Talking Book program.

The Voices of Vision Talking Book program serves residents of 12 counties in northern Illinois. The Talking Book Center's users are provided with talking books, special playback equipment, and other program materials and services, distributed postage free via the United States Postal Service. The program is housed at and operated by the DuPage Library System (DLS) and funded through a contract with the Illinois State Library.
