FVCB Winter Concert March 4 at Norris Center

The Fox Valley Concert Band (FVCB) presents its Winter Concert on Sunday, March 4, at the Norris Center.  The concert begins at 3:00 p.m. and, as always, is free to the public.

Selections to be performed at the concert include On the Wings of the Chosen, Comedy Overture, Old American Dances, and Parachutistes, as well as Barnes’ Second and Fourth Movements. A highlight of the concert will be a solo of Guilmant’s Morceau Symphonique by intern Connor Frederick.

A junior at Batavia High School, Frederick began the internship in January, and is thrilled both to be part of the band, and to be performing this particular piece.

“I am very excited to have been selected to perform with the band,” he says. “This is one of my favorite pieces to listen to and perform, and will also be my first solo performance with any ensemble. I hope that I will do well.”

Frederick, who plans to major in Music Education in college and hopes to someday perform professionally, recognizes the important part his involvement in FVCB will play in reaching that goal.
“I recognize that this is a rare opportunity,” he notes. “It gives me the great experience of performing with mature musicians that share a common goal, which is making music. I also enjoy working with Colin Holman, who is a fantastic musician and conductor.”

FVCB is the area’s leading community wind ensemble, and has grown to a membership of more than 80 musicians, representing nearly 30 communities from throughout northern Illinois. Its wide-ranging repertoire includes band and wind ensemble classics, as well as contemporary works.

FVCB’s 2011-12 season concludes with a final performance at the Norris Center: its Spring Concert at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 6. The Norris Center is located at 1040 Dunham Road in St. Charles.
