District 204's Meet the Artist Concert Featuring World Class Percussionist Open to Public

Waubonsie Valley High School music students are working with world class percussionist Anders Astrand this week.

As part of District 204’s Artist in Residence program, Astrand is a visiting with students Monday, January 10 through Thursday, January 13.

On Thursday evening the community is invited to The Eighth Annual Meet the Artist Concert featuring a performance by Astrand with the music students. The free concert is at 7:30 pm at the school. The performance will conclude with an original composition entitled “The Life of a Warrior” composed especially for the Waubonsie Valley High School freshmen. The annual Meet the Artist concert is generously supported by Indian Prairie Educational Foundation

As a percussion specialist, Astrand regularly performs recitals and gives clinics throughout the US and Europe both as a soloist and together with his percussion ensemble Global Percussion Network. In his compositions, Astrand focuses on improvisation as an essential feature for soloists as well as the ensemble.
