Whiz Kids: National Merit Scholars

Each week Naperville Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.

This week's nomination does not include just one Whiz Kid, but four. Check it out!

○      Whiz Kids' names: Laura Burns, John O'Neill, Joey Kim and Mishka Gidwani

○      Whiz Kids' ages: High School

○      Whiz Kids' school: Waubonsie Valley High School and

○      Whiz Kids' accomplishment: The National Merit Scholarship Corporation awarded $2,500 scholarships to the students.

○      Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness (what made him/her successful?): The students were selected from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists. A committee reviewed the student’s academic record, scores from two standardized tests, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, as well as submitting an essay.

Thanks to a partnership with , each weekly Whiz Kid will receive a certificate good for one free slice of pizza at the restaurant's or locations.
