Whiz Kid: Earth Essay Genius

Waubonsie Valley High School freshman Michelle Woods is this week's Naperville Patch Whiz Kid.

Each week Naperville Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.

We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid. ○      Whiz Kids' accomplishment: Placed first in the junior division of the DuPont Challenge Science Essay Competition

○      Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness (what made him/her successful?):

Michelle's essay, "Conserving Earth's Endangered Helium," was selected from more than 10,000 entries. As first place winner, she receives a $5,000 U.S. savings bond and trip to Walt Disney World. Michelle will also visit the Kennedy Space Center to witness the last launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavour, which has been postponed to May 10. Her sponsoring science teacher, Ray Piccininni at , will also receive a $500 teaching grant and a trip to Disney World. Keep up the good work, Michelle! We're happy to name you this week's Naperville Patch Whiz Kid.
