UPDATE: Freezing Rain Advisory in Effect; Icy Roads, Accidents Reported

A freezing rain advisory is in effect until midnight Friday for counties throughout the Chicago suburbs.

Rain is expected to continue to fall across the area through mid- to late-evening. Although temperatures have warmed to the mid-30s and -40s, the ground remains very cold and has lead to icy roads, sidewalks and driveways, according to the National Weather Service.

In addition, several roadways have reportedly closed throughout the Chicago area due to the conditions and multiple accidents have been reported, according to the NWS.

Roadways in north central Illinois are especially bad and travel is not advised in that area. Drivers should prepare for slippery roads and slow down and use caution while driving.
