Naperville Celebrates St. Patrick's Day

Despite the weather, hearty residents came out for the annual parade.

An overcast day with temperatures in the 30s and gusty winds making it feel much colder didn't dampen spirits in downtown Naperville, as residents packed shoulder to shoulder along Jefferson Avenue and Main Street to take in the West Suburban Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade.

The day's festivities kicked off at 8 a.m. with the Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise's inaugural St. Paddy's Day 5K race, which drew nearly 1,800 participants. Ryan Carrigan finished first overall with a time of 15:20, and Amber Druien's time of 18:17 was best for the women. Thirteen-year-old Luke Sammons recorded the fastest time for everyone under 18 at 19:14.

Hundreds of people marched in the parade, from Girl Scouts to Shriners. And many tots and pups could be found bundled up among the parade goers.
