Multicolored Flour Flies at Naperville's Fifth Festival of Colors

The vernal celebration, which has its route in Hindu tradition, brought about 4,000 people to the Riverwalk Grand Pavillion on Saturday.

Replicating a traditional Hindu spring celebration (Holi) involving the flinging of colored flour to represent vernal hues, thousands festival-goers swarmed Naperville on Saturday afternoon to spray the air and each other with color while listening to Indian music and enjoying traditional Indian food, the Naperville Sun reports.

According to the paper, an estimated 4,000 people from the region showed up to Riverwalk Grand Pavillion—the location's first year hosting the event—for the fifth annual holding of the party, which is put on by Naperville's Hindu/Indian-centric Simply Vedic Cultural Society.

“It’s a constant crowd coming," Naveen Sharma, the founder and president of Simply Vedic, told the paper. "This is a festival of joy and friendship. People just throw their worries to the wind and you see the smiles.”
