Hot Temperatures Set Record

Temperatures extended into the 90s today, which set a record, according to meteorologists.

Chances are you didn't even realize it, but when you woke up to sunshine and warm temperatures this morning, you were also witnessing history.

As temperatures raced through the 80s and into the 90s this afternoon, today's weather set a Chicago-area record that dated back to 1896, according to Tom Skilling. O'Hare Field topped out at 90 breaking the record of 89.

A meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Romeoville said temperatures went as high as 91 degrees today. And, according to Naperville Patch's weather from Weather Bug, it was 90 degrees at 6:30 p.m.

Although the NWS has no records for historical temperatures—the station is still relatively new—that figure surpassed the previous record of 89 degrees set in 1987, according to the The Weather Channel.

The rest of the week's forecast calls for warm weather as well. Temperatures are expected to stay in the 80s until Thursday before thunderstorms are expected to enter the area.
