Fall Brush Collection Dropped Do To Budget Constraints

While the fall bulk brush collection is no longer, residents may include brush with yard waste collection.

The days of free fall bulk brush pick up are over. The city is reminding residents that in a cost saving measure the city will no longer collect brush in bulk during the fall.

Before 2010, the city conducted the pick-ups twice a year in the spring and fall, but now the collection will only take place in the spring, according to the .

While the bulk collections will not take place, residents may dispose of yard waste and bundled small branches at any time between now and Dec. 16 through the yard waste program. Stickers, which cost $2.10, must be affixed to bags and bundles — except during a six-week period from Nov. 7 to Dec. 16.

The city asks that residents who wish to participate in the yard waste program place grass, weeds, small branches, twigs and leaves in 32-gallon paper yard waste bags. Additionally, branches less than three inches in diameter may be tied in bundles that measure up to four feet long and two feet wide.

Guidelines for yard waste disposal:

  • Bundles must be secured with biodegradable twine; bags and bundles have a 60-pound weight limit.
  • A yard waste sticker must be affixed to each bag or bundle prior to placement at the curb for collection.
  • Stickers for the yard waste program may be purchased for $2.10 each at Naperville area hardware and grocery stores as well as at the City’s Finance Department counter, located in the Naperville Municipal Center at 400 S. Eagle St.
  • Bagged brush, including leaves, does not require a sticker from Nov. 7 through Dec. 16. During this six-week period, residents may dispose of bagged yard waste in 32-gallon paper yard waste bags, free of charge, each week on their normal garbage collection day. No sticker is required on the bags. Branches and other yard waste that are tied into bundles require a sticker at all times.
