Explore Equestrian History During DuPage County Forest Preserve's Family Field Day

Memorial Day weekend is a perfect time to enjoy the warm weather and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has a great opportunity for locals to do so this Saturday.

St. James Forest Preserve in Warrenville will be holding Family Field Day, a celebration of the preserve’s equestrian and agrarian history on May 26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The free family-friendly event will provide plenty of activities including riding demonstrations held by the Equestrian Fiesta Troupe and Midwest Renegades, along with pony rides for children 12 and under. Hay-filled wagon rides as well as archery and fishing will be taking place throughout the day.

Located on a working farm, St. James Forest Preserve is home to a number of historic buildings, which visitors can tour on Saturday. Learn about the county’s equestrian heritage by going inside a colonial-style stable as well as other historic barns located on the preserve.

Other attractions such as antique and restored tractors will be on display courtesy of the International Harvester Corporation Collectors Club, Chapter 2 of Northern Illinois.

Hybrid vehicles from Lisle-based company and Family Field Day co-sponsor Navistar will also be on display.

Admission is free, but a $5 fee applies for certain activities and reservations are not required. St. James Farm’s Forest Preserve is located on Winfield road just north of Butterfield Road in Warrenville.
