Women's micro-retreat on 'Creative Journaling' helps enhance prayer

Women will learn how “Creative Journaling” can enhance the language of the soul during prayer at a program from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

Local graphic designer Rachelle Hickey who will facilitate the program says it will be fashioned to “discover how using creative – or art – journaling as prayer can open us to the Present Moment, and help us connect with our deepest selves and the Divine that dwells within.”

Simply defined, creative journaling is adding paint, papers, words, images and writing to conventional journaling. Doing so incorporates added dimensions of self-expression to prayer.

No art or journaling experience is necessary, and women are encouraged to bring copies of favorite quotes, prayers, images, magazines and scissors to use in designing their own creative prayer journals.

The evening will begin with wine and light refreshments.

Reservations, at $10 each payable at the door, should be made by Monday, Oct. 1, because space is limited to 75 participants. Reservations and more information about “Creative Journaling” are available by contacting Chari Rosales, director of S.T.A.F.F.S. (St. Thomas Adult Faith Formation & Spirituality), at (630) 355-8980, ext. 138, or at crosales@stapostle.org.

“Creative Journaling” is being sponsored by Sophia’s Circle, a St. Thomas ministry that produces three micro-retreats yearly for women to explore topics related to spiritual re-connections of faith in a three-hour evening format.
