Advent Taizé prayer service

A Taizé prayer service is scheduled at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville, as a serene and meditative way to prepare for the Advent season. The service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, November 29, in the Lighthouse room of the church.

Calm and meditative, Taizé prayer services include chanting, Scriptural readings, ritual action, and vocal and silent prayer. Repetitive phrases in the chants promote serenity and are invitations into silent prayer and praising God. Simple and distinct in style, these hymns are recognized throughout Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.

The Taizé service takes its name from a unique religious community founded in France in 1940. The community, both ecumenical and international in character, numbers about 100 monks hailing from 25 different countries representing the Anglican, Catholic, Lutheran and other Christian traditions.
