Women's Renewal Retreat Makes Impact

The Homestead B&B: A Special Event Facility in Plano and LifeScape Strategies has partnered to offer exclusive women’s retreats in a luxury intimate setting. The women-owned businesses hosted a weekend of wellness and renewal in mid-November. Julia Skeesick of LifeScape says she was inspired to offer the retreats after meeting and visiting with Mary Kay Sergo of the Homestead last year. “You come into this place and feel you are a million miles away. It is peaceful, elegant and luxurious all at the same time. The historic property completely and lovingly restored has a rare charm.” Additionally, “I had an instant friendship with Mary Kay and was thrilled to have found a like-minded business partner and friend.”

Julia, who works throughout the Chicagoland area with private clients and speaking to broad audiences on personal and professional growth topics, recognized a void for retreats in the Chicago and surrounding suburban area that aim to cultivate and enhance women’s health and happiness. Julia’s daughter, Rachel Skeesick a Certified Health and Wellness Coach has joined the duo to provide nutrition classes and prepare mouth-watering health-promoting infused meals.

In 2012, upon announcing she was leaving an executive position with The Wisconsin Department of Corrections a message sent to all agency staff read, “All too often people who have a lifelong dream wind up putting it off.  This is not the case, however, for DOC Reentry Director Mary Kay Sergo.  For some time she has dreamed of owning and operating a bed and breakfast business and now that dream is coming to fruition.” Since taking on owning The Homestead, Mary Kay has created a space that allows retreat guests to discover-indulge-relax and enjoy. “Meeting Julia ignited my passion to provide opportunities that allow others to dream new dreams.  Julia’s positive contagious energy is something I can’t get enough of!”

The fall retreat was a huge success because of a magical group of women who took time to take a breath, hear themselves think and restore. They left the weekend refreshed and recharged with new ideas. recent survey results were overwhelmingly positive.

“The best thing I did for myself was to say "YES" to this women's retreat at The Homestead.  Julia, Rachel and Mary Kay were exceptional hosts.  From the moment I walked in the door of The Homestead on Friday night and was greeted by Mary Kay, I was pampered from head to toe.  This was a profound weekend of deep connection with new friends, shared laughter as well as shared tears, delicious nutritional foods cooked by Rachel all weekend to nourish our bodies while Julia nourished our souls with meditations and sessions on reaching for our dreams and goals.  I haven't had this much fun in a long time and I can't wait to do it again!  Every woman, no matter who she is, needs a weekend like this!!”
