WDSRA Receives Grant from Exchange Club of Naperville

Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) Foundation graciously received a grant from the Exchange Club of Naperville as a result of RibFest, an annual event organized by members of the Exchange Club.  Funds raised through RibFest support local not-for-profits that benefit children’s welfare.

WDSRA will use the grant monies to support inclusion services for children with disabilities attending Naperville Park District summer camps. The philosophy underlying WDSRA’s inclusion services is that any child with a disability be allowed to participate at their highest level of ability, in the least restrictive environment, and have full access to the community in which they live.

The benefits of inclusion affect not only the individual but also their family, peers, and the community in which they live. Individuals in inclusive settings show improvement in cognitive and social measures, and are assisted to better connect with others. Participants without disabilities benefit from the inclusion experience by learning to appreciate each individual’s differences and becoming more comfortable in connecting with people with various disabilities.
