Warrenville karate team continues tourney success

The Baekwoon Tigers Competition Team saw further success as three of its members competed at the 8th Annual First Strike Open Martial Arts Tournament held February 23 in Oak Park, Ill. On the heels of a successful showing at the AKA Grand Nationals, Matthew Ingram, Matthew Randal, and Alexander Raymundo continued their momentum in competition. Each member participated in multiple events including traditional kata (forms), creative kata, weapons kata and sparring, which pitted them against other competitors of same age and level ability.

“These three did a great job at the First Strike Tournament. I feel their exposure to the high caliber competition that they went up against at the AKA Grands, really helped them do well at this event,” stated Sensei Jeremy Talbott, their coach and head instructor. “I see them pushing themselves harder in class and I’m very happy to see them grow in this sport. I look forward to their next competition, the Naperville Challenge, in June.”

Formed in 2011, The Baekwoon Mu Sul Tigers (Warrenville, Ill.), has grown from one team member to 18. In the 2013 season, the team produced four national champions and seven national top-10 competitors within the American Karate Association, one of the oldest tournament circuits in the United States. The team practices at LifeTime Fitness of Warrenville. You can find the Baekwoon Mu Sul Academy on Facebook.
