Roskam Visits Naperville Area Humane Society, Talks Animal Rights

Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) visited the Naperville Area Humane Society (NAHS) to meet with local volunteers and national representatives from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the Humane Society of the United States (NSUS), for a tour of the Naperville facility and to discuss legislation to ensure the humane treatment of animals.

“It was great to spend time with the folks who work tirelessly to combat animal abuse and promote the well-being of animals both here at home and across the country,” said Roskam. ‘For 35 years, the Naperville Area Humane Society has rescued and rehabilitated over 20,000 animals and place them in good, loving homes. I’m proud to work with organizations like the ASPCA, the Humane Society, and our own Naperville Area Humane Society to advance initiatives to protect animals so they can live happy and healthy lives.”

·         H.R. 366: Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act – This enacted legislation made it a crime to knowingly attend or bring a minor to an animal fighting event. Roskam was an original cosponsor of this bill, which was enacted into law as a part of the 2014 Farm Bill.

·         H.R. 1528: Veterinary Medicine Mobility Act – This legislation prevents licensed veterinarians from being arrested while transporting medicine as part of their veterinary practice.

·         H.R. 847: Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety (PUPS) Act – This bill makes every large scale dog breeder subject to federal inspections and humane treatment requirements.

·         H.R. 1518: Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act – This bill prohibits a person from engaging in the inhumane practice of horse soring.
