Naperville Public Library to offer Educational Brain-Related Programs

Naperville Public Library continues its health initiative Healthy, Wealthy and Wise in October, offering three brain- and memory-related programs at Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave.

The Library will offer “Healthy Brain, Healthy Memory” from 7–8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15. In this educational and entertaining presentation, Linda Sasser, Ph.D., will share facts about the brain and activities that can help improve brain function. Strategies for improving memory retention will also be covered. This program is partially funded by a grant from the City of Naperville.

“The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease” will be presented in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association from 7–8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16. The program will cover detection, causes and risk factors, disease stages and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Also offered is “Trial of Mrs. Lincoln: Appointing a Legal Guardian” from 6:30–8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29. Kerry Peck, attorney at Peck Bloom, LLC, will provide an overview of the trial of Mary Todd Lincoln as a framework for discussion of how the determination of mental capacity plays a role in today’s legal system. The topic of guardianship for individuals with diminished mental capacity will also be discussed.
