Representatives from Naperville Hose Co. No. 1 recently presented Naper Settlement President and CEO Mike Krol with a $2,000 check representing the proceeds from their spring banquet fundraiser in April.
“We appreciate the long-term relationship we have with your organization,” Krol said. “The generous contribution represents the first official gift toward making Naper Settlement’s long-term vision of Scott’s Block, which includes the firehouse, a reality.”
“We hope this will be the first of many more donations to come,” said Terry Jelinek, vice president of Naperville Hose Co. No. 1 and a retired Naperville district chief. “It’s important to showcase our history at Naper Settlement and to preserve it for the future.”

Naper Settlement’s long range plan includes an addition known as Scott’s Block, which will include a firehouse inspired by the building constructed in 1888 on Jefferson Avenue. The firehouse will provide housing for Naperville’s first piece of firefighting equipment, the 1874 Joe Naper Pumper, and the 1924 Ahrens Fox, Naperville’s second piece of motorized firefighting equipment.
Scott’s Block will help Naper Settlement expand its preservation efforts beyond the 19th century to tell the whole story of Naperville—the settlement of an agrarian-based town that has evolved into a top-rated city with a strong technology and science base.

Naperville Hose Co. No. 1, a 501(c) 3 organization, is composed of retired and active members of the fire service. It was founded to foster and perpetuate the history of the Naperville Fire Department, the preservation and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, clothing and related archival material.
