Exelon Volunteers Give Naperville Area Humane Society a Spring Cleaning

Employee volunteers from Exelon cleaned kennels, walked dogs and sorted donated pet food at the Naperville Area Humane Society as part of Exelon’s companywide celebration of National Volunteer Week on Tuesday, April 8. Volunteers also raked, mulched and provided additional maintenance to the grounds of the facility

Founded in 1979, the Naperville Area Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of companion animals. The society has sheltered more than 20,000 homeless animals in the community.

“Volunteering at the Naperville Area Humane Society is an annual tradition for Exelon employees during National Volunteer Week,” said Keith Jury, vice president of licensing and regulatory affairs, Exelon. “We are excited to give back to this organization for the important work they do in caring for pets and placing them in loving homes.”

The event was one of more than 150 community service projects Exelon employee volunteers are leading in celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 6-12), an annual, nationwide observance of people working to improve their communities through volunteer service. More than 1,000 Exelon employees, family members and friends are expected to provide approximately 4,000 hours of volunteer service for the projects, which take place in Exelon’s service territories of northern Illinois, central Maryland, southeastern Pennsylvania and Texas.

“Our employees look forward to National Volunteer Week as an opportunity to better the quality of life in the communities they serve,” said Exelon President and CEO Chris Crane, “and their passion for serving does not end there. All year long, our dedicated employees donate their time and energy to the causes and organizations that matter to them to help create a brighter, more sustainable future where our communities thrive.”

For the eighth consecutive year, Exelon recognized National Volunteer Week by empowering employee volunteers to design their own service projects and recruit others to participate. Exelon’s projects focus on education, environmental issues, diversity and inclusion, and community enrichment.

In 2013, more than 3,800 Exelon employee volunteers gave almost 88,000 hours of their time to community nonprofit organizations. This is equivalent to more than 2,200 workweeks or over 42 years of fulltime service.
