NEW LENOX – Shorewood has joined 10 communities engaging in intergovernmental agreements with Will County Animal Control for services.

The three-year contracts were approved at the February County Board meeting. It is the first time Shorewood has contracted with the County for services.

Residents should call their local police departments about strays. The police departments then call Animal Control. Animals will be impounded at the nearest shelter.

Strays will be kept for a period of seven days waiting for owners to claim them; after that they will be released to an adoption agency.

Communities are billed monthly for each time the County group is called out to pick up an animal.

People in unincorporated areas should call Animal Control directly at (815) 462-5633.

Will County Animal Control, 1200 S. Cedar Road, Unit 1D, is under Walsh’s office.
