DuPage Symphony Presents "Basically Baroque" Chamber Music Performance

The DuPage Symphony Orchestra continues its 60th Anniversary Season in “Basically Baroque”, the first of two performances in its intimate chamber music concert series.  Music Director Barbara Schubert conducts members of the DuPage Symphony—honored by the Illinois Council of Orchestras as the 2013 Community Orchestra of the Year—in a performance at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 North Main Street in Wheaton, on Sunday, March 2 at 3:00 PM.

The performance features four masterworks of the Baroque era with several DSO musicians as featured soloists.  DSO principal harp Nichole Luchs of Plano is the featured soloist in the Harp Concerto in B-flat Major of George Frederic Handel, and DSO principal cellist Jennifer Duitsman of Wheaton is the featured soloist in the Cello Concerto in A Major of C.P.E. Bach.

Three DSO musicians are featured in the Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 of Johann Sebastian Bach; flautist Shirley Bodett of Seneca, violinist Kristen Burk of Glen Ellyn, and harpsichordist Kevin Wong of Chicago.  This three-movement masterpiece is notable for its virtuosic writing for the solo instruments, rhythmic vitality, and sparkling counterpoint.  Organist William P. Crosbie, Director of Music for Gary United Methodist Church, joins the DSO for a performance of the Organ Concerto Op. 4, No. 2 of Handel.

General admission tickets for this March 2 performance by the DuPage Symphony are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (65+), and $8 for students.  Tickets can be purchased by calling the DuPage Symphony office at 630.778.1003 or online at www.dupagesymphony.org.
