DuPage Medical Group Offers Comprehensive Breast Health Services

As part of its overall dedication to women’s health, DuPage Medical Group, the largest independent, multi-specialty physician group in the Chicago area, is joining the effort to raise awareness of breast cancer during the month of October. With a team of nine breast surgeons, six medical oncologists, three radiation oncologists and a team of dedicated breast radiologists, DMG is a leader in providing breast health technology and treatment to patients in the region, underlining its commitment to patients’ wellness, from screening and diagnosis to recovery and survivorship.

High Risk Breast Clinic

DMG’s high-risk breast clinic is designed especially for women with a personal or family health history that may place them at increased risk for developing breast cancer in their lifetime. Patients referred to the program undergo an individualized screening, genetic risk evaluation, counseling and education on breast health. They also have access to a specialized team of physicians, genetic counselors and nurse navigators. After their initial high-risk clinic appointment, the treatment team may recommend and setup a plan for cancer monitoring and prevention based on the individual needs of the patient.

As part of DMG’s commitment to help breast cancer patients throughout the area, its Radiology locations offer the latest in diagnostic technology. Dedicated breast imaging radiologists guide DMG’s breast imaging program, which includes digital and 3D mammography, stereotactic biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided biopsy.

3-D Mammography

DMG offers 3-D mammography at multiple locations. Also known as tomosynthesis, this revolutionary mammogram technology allows radiologists to identify and characterize individual breast structures with unprecedented clarity. While conventional imaging techniques are limited to a single view of breast tissues, tomosynthesis allows enhanced views of the breast using one-millimeter increments to better evaluate for the presence of abnormalities.

The 3-D mammography process takes a few seconds longer but is similar to the traditional procedure. The technology is available for all screening and diagnostic patients, and is routinely used as a complement to a traditional mammogram.

Technologists have the advantage of reviewing the quality of scans before patients leave the testing center. This helps eliminate the need for patients to return for additional testing. 3D mammography is offered at DMG’s Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, Lisle and Naperville-Rickert locations.

In addition, DuPage Medical Group utilizes an electronic medical record system that enables DMG healthcare professionals to access a patient’s scans and medical information. This continuity of care optimizes communication among physicians and enhances patient experience when consulting with multiple physicians.

Breast Health Certifications

All DMG Breast Centers are certified as Pink Ribbon Facilities by Hologic—a distinction only awarded to an elite group of healthcare facilities offering the latest, state-of-the-art digital technology for breast cancer detection. In addition, DMG’s Naperville Breast Center and the Lisle Medical Office Building location have been designated Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence (BICOE) by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
