County's electronic recycling at nearly 2 million pounds in six months
JOLIET – Will County electronic recycling sites collected nearly 2 million pounds in the first part of 2013, greater than all of 2011.
Marta Keane, Recycling Program Specialist with the Will County Land Use Resource Recovery and Energy Division, said, “Vintage Tech has reported collecting 1,927,521 pounds from Jan. 1 to June 30.
“We are going gangbusters on electronics as more people have learned that they are recyclable and they are banned from Illinois landfills!”

Will County Executive Larry Walsh said it proves that people want to do the right thing and recycle, and the County, with its partner Vintage Tech of Plainfield, has made it convenient for them by providing permanent drop-off sites and home collection.
“Last year we doubled the storage capacity of three of our drop-off sites,” Walsh said. “And all of our sites have seen increased participation.”

In 2012, 3,208,437 pounds were collected.
“This is all the more amazing when you consider we recycled 1,677,039 total in 2011,” said Walsh. “We have recycled more in the first six months of 2013 than in all of 2011.”
Keane added, “We couldn’t be this successful and service our residents’ needs without all of our partners.”
