ACS, Edward seek participants for landmark cancer prevention study

To better understand ways to prevent cancer, the American Cancer Society is recruiting men and women across the U.S. and Puerto Rico for a landmark new research study – Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3).  Enrollment is being made possible in partnership with Edward Cancer Center.

Individuals may participate if they are willing to make a long-term commitment to the study (which involves completing follow-up surveys periodically over the next 20-30 years), are between the ages of 30-65 years old and have never been diagnosed with cancer.  The goal of CPS-3 is to help researchers better understand genetic, environmental and other factors that may cause or prevent cancer.

Enrollment in the study requires two steps:

--Online scheduling of an in-person enrollment appointment at a healthcare location in the western suburbs (September 10-20) and completion of a comprehensive online survey to answer questions about medications being taken, family history of cancer, lifestyle and other behaviors.  To do this, visit www.cps3illinois.org.

--In-person enrollment appointment at which participants will sign an informed consent document, complete a brief survey, provide a waist circumference measurement and small blood sample.

The Edward Cancer Center will host in-person enrollment appointments at its locations in Naperville, on the campus of Edward Hospital, 801 S. Washington St., September 12, 1-4:30 p.m. and Plainfield, on the Edward Plainfield campus, 24600 W. 127th St., September 10, 1-4:30 p.m.
