DESCRIPTION:The  24th annual Janice Borla Vocal Jazz Camp and "Hot Jazz-6
  Cool Nites"  concert series will be held at North Central College.\nThe
   Janice Borla Vocal Jazz Camp will provide a unique  educational experi
 ence for aspiring jazz vocalists in an intensified\,  one-week course of
  study and skills development conducted by a faculty of professional per
 forming and recording artists.\nParticipants usually range  in age and b
 ackground from high school and college students to adult  professional v
 ocalists and jazz educators.\nThe curriculum is designed  specifically f
 or the solo jazz vocalist.\nDaily activities will include  workshops in 
 jazz improvisation\, performance styles and techniques and  solo perform
 ance preparation. There will also be artist master classes\, vocal  jazz
  history and music theory.\nNightly faculty artist  concerts\, informal 
 student jam sessions\, and a final concert featuring  each participant p
 erforming with the staff rhythm section will also be included.\nThe camp
  will open to those ages 14 and up. Housing and meals will be available 
 for an additional $300.\nParticipants must enroll by June 1.\nFeatured v
 ocal staff artists will include Janice Borla\, Jay Clayton and Suzanne P
 ittson\, all of whom are acclaimed jazz vocalists.\nStaff camp will incl
 ude jazz trumpeter Art Davis\; and the Dan Haerle Trio\, comprised of pi
 anist Dan Haerle\, bassist Bob Bowman and drummer Jack Mouse.\nActivitie
 s wil include the "Hot Jazz-6 Cool Nites\," an evening concert series fe
 aturing camp faculty artists that will be open to the general public. Th
 e concerts will take place at Meiley-Swallow Hall.\nThe faculty artists 
 series will open July 21 and be held July 23 to 26. It will feature a di
 fferent combination of artists each night. It will conclude July 27 with
  a concert featuring all of the camp participants and the faculty rhythm
  section.\n&nbsp\;\nThis year's concerts will be presented in  the Colle
 ge's theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall\, 31 S. Ellsworth St. The  faculty a
 rtist series opens on Saturday\, July 21\, and continues Monday  through
  Thursday\, July 23-26\, featuring a different combination of  artists e
 ach evening. The series concludes on Friday\, July 27 with a  concert fe
 aturing all of the camp participants performing with the  faculty rhythm
  section.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;\n
